Berry Creek Tennis 

The Tennis Club at Berry Creek, set amidst The Reserve at Berry Creek, is surrounded by native oaks and has ten lighted Plexipave® all-weather tennis courts. A full snack bar is open year-round, making it a great place to unwind and have a seltzer after your match. The Tennis Shop carries a wide variety of apparel, racquets and accessories. In addition to tennis, Berry Creek has a fully equipped fitness studio with state of the art cardiovascular and Cybex strength equipment. The Junior Olympic-style pool is a popular place to cool off and relax in the summer months.

Berry Creek is home to a diverse group of teaching professionals who are known for their love and passion for growing the game. Each professional is certified by one of the leading coaching associations in the the world.

Rick Wood


Director of Tennis

Rick, along with his wife Stephanie and children, made the move from Oregon in August 2022. His daughter, Sydney, a Senior will finish up at Georgetown, while his son Madden will be an 8th grader at Forbes Middle School. Rick, hired as a teaching professional, quickly established a strong clientele with his no-nonsense, up-tempo teaching style and have fun mentality, was honed from over a decade of coaching DIII. His coaching philosophy revolves around bringing out the best in his team, fostering continuous improvement.
 
Prior to joining Berry Creek, Rick served as the Director of Men’s and Women’s tennis at Willamette University (DIII) in Salem, Oregon, from 2011 to 2021. Preceding that, he held the position of Director of Tennis at Illahe Hills CC (2001-11) in Salem, Oregon. Drawing parallels between Illahe and Berry Creek, Rick emphasizes their shared characteristics as family-oriented, fun, multi-event clubs.
 
Rick's diverse teaching experience includes roles at Salem Tennis and Swim Club, Sunriver Resorts (Bend, Oregon), Army/Navy CC (Arlington, VA), Country Club of Fairfax (Fairfax, VA), and even as a personal travel coach in Hiroshima and Osaka, Japan. Reflecting on his extensive travels, Rick expresses gratitude for the friendships and connections forged worldwide.
 
On the court, Rick boasts a playing career featuring two state high school tournaments (Rd 16: Oregon), four NAIA national tournaments (Overland Park, Kansas) with Willamette University, and NAIA singles and doubles conference championships. Additionally, he has participated in five USTA National tournaments (5.0 men’s and 8.0 mixed).
 
Thrilled to assume the Director position at Berry Creek, Rick looks forward to the club's future and expresses gratitude for the support received from the membership over the past year and a half.

Cameron McCarthy


USPTA, Junior Development Pro

Cameron is the Head of Junior Development at the Tennis Club at Berry Creek, having joined our staff in the spring of 2024. His journey at Berry Creek began with the junior program, where he trained from 2010 to 2014, achieving a ranking among the top 30 18s juniors in Texas. He then went on to play collegiate tennis at the University of Texas at Tyler.


After college, Cameron spent a few years in tech sales but soon realized that his true passion is tennis. He shifted his focus back to the sport, dedicating himself to teaching and getting back on the courts.


Having played against a wide range of opponents with various playing styles, Cameron understands that each player’s game is unique. This insight allows him to tailor his lessons and drills to meet the specific needs and goals of each player. He emphasizes helping players enhance their skills and improve their match strategy.


As a USPTA-certified teaching professional, Cameron is excited to work with the next generation of players, growing both their skills and a lifelong love for tennis.

Clinics


Please check out our weekly schedule of events, which can be found under the 'Tennis Schedule and Events' tab. The schedule changes each season. Be sure to check back for updated events.


 Register for one of our "game changing" clinics by visiting our online portal system at 10sportal.net. All our clinics are taught by certified teaching professionals and are a great way to exercise, have a blast, make new friends, and improve your game.

Junior Development Program


Mighty Might’s 


Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm


This program is perfect to start ages 5-7 in the game of tennis. This class utilizes the USTA Quick Start format. The kids will have tons of fun while playing, learning, and working on having consistent contact through drills and games.


$12 per day for members

Future Stars


Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm


The next level of our junior program at Berry Creek is a step up from Mighty Might’s. This program is designed to familiarize the players with the USTA Quick Start format. This will incorporate different spin and grip techniques while playing competitive drills and games.


$12 per day for members

$17 per day for guests


All-Stars


Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5:45 pm - 7:00 pm


This is the perfect program for a player that has a background of the main strikes, and rules of of tennis. Intermediate students from competitive middle school up to Junior Varsity level in high school. We will focus on proper grips, technique, foot work, and fitness. Players in this group should be able to rally from the baseline.


$15 per day for members

High Performance


Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm


This is the most competitive and advanced class at Berry Creek. Most players compete in USTA tournaments or playing at the Varsity level. Instructors help players with match strategy, point construction, physical conditioning, foot work, and technique.
